Welcome and come on in!. The Region I Council on Developmental Disabilities is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to enhance the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families in Northwest Missouri.

The Region I Council on Developmental Disabilities is one of Missouri's eleven regional advisory councils to the Division of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities of the Department of Mental Health.

The Council is composed of up to twenty volunteers who have developmental disabilities or are family members, professionals or representatives of public and private organizations concerned about disability issues. Region I Council has representation from Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Harrison, Holt and Nodaway counties.

The Council provides public education, promotes leadership development, provides grassroots input to the Missouri Planning Council and the Division of MRDD (Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) and administers the Family Support Cash Stipend and Loan Program

The Region I Council is funded through a grant from the Missouri Planning Council For Developmental Disabilities which receives federal funds from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities.

  • the opportunity and right to go to school with you peers in regular classrooms in neighborhood schools
  • empowerment of families through early education
  • the opportunity to be included and accepted in all aspects of community life
  • the education of the community about developmental disabilities
  • the opportunity to make individual supported choices about where to live, work and play
  • the right to be treated with dignity and respect
